Grid Law Solicitors is delighted to announce that it will be a sponsor of Bournemouth University’s 16th annual Festival of Design and Innovation, which takes place from the 26th to 30th June.
This year the festival will showcase more than 150 designs and prototypes from final year students undertaking the various design courses that are available at Bournemouth University. As part of the Festival, Grid Law will be sponsoring an award for the design with “the most commercial potential.”
Director of Grid Law, David Walker, said “I am delighted to be presenting and sponsoring the award for the design with the most commercial potential. I have been working with the commercialisation team at Bournemouth University for over a year now and some of the designs that the students produce are fantastic. I am sure that this year we will find even more designs with huge potential.”
Bournemouth University has a strong commercialisation team which helps students develop and protect their designs and then assists in finding routes to market. One of the biggest successes Grid Law has been involved with is the pop-up tent designed by Franziska Conrad which has been licensed to Gelert, a leading supplier of outdoor equipment.
Grid Law has just opened an office within the Bournemouth University Innovation Centre and commercialisation manager Geoff Bell said “It is great to have David so close to hand as he fulfils an essential role at all stages within the commercialisation process. Recently he brought a successful claim against a major infringer of one of our graduate’s designs recovering several thousand pounds of damages for the University, the graduate and the company we had licensed the design to. We were thrilled with the result.”
This is not the first event Grid Law has sponsored in recent months. They were actively involved with Rallye Sunseeker 2008 as their official legal advisors and sponsor of a special stage. David Walker also presented a seminar at Sun Sea and Sound, a music industry event held in Bournemouth, discussing the issues surrounding illegal file sharing and the downloading of music from the internet.
